Saddles by Heilman Antique Motorcycle Saddle Reproduction
Leather Colors
The OLDER SEATS from 1900 through 1930s are offered in either Black or Brown Dyed leather. The brown dye will make a slightly different color with every piece of leather it is used on. Because of this I cannot offer exact color match on my leather products.
I try and display the colors shown on this web site to match the actual saddles that I make. However this is only on my computer monitor and a few other reference computers. I cannot know how it will look on your computer. You may have different settings on you monitor or even different display parameters set in your operating system.
I can send you a small sample of the dyed leather so you can see the color in person, but since this is not the actual leather used on the seat, the color may vary a little on the finished product.
The NEWER SEATS and Saddle Bags from late 1930s to present are offered in black and many shades of brown and tan. The brown and tan leather is pre dyed at the tannery and quite consistent across the whole hide. I am not a large enough consumer of this leather to be able to have the tannery make a custom color order for me, so I must obtain these non black colors on the spot market a few hides at a time. Because of this what colors are available changes as my stock is used up and new leather is obtained.
What I can do is to send the customer an email (or surface mail) with a photo showing the colors of leather that are currently available. Once you have narrowed the selection (I often have over a dozen colors on the shelf), I can send small samples of the actual leather for your final choice.
All of this applies to non black leather. Black will usually match Black.
